Research Process and Inspiration

The concept of this project was initially too look into sensatory exploration, looking at hearing, seeing, and agressive lightening, colors, and sound. I was interested to look into creating discomforting sounds such as raying cds and look into the refraction of lights in cds as a sensatory experiment. This led us to discuss in group, and look into the power that has fame on fans and on the star itself. We really wanted to look into the contrast between the glamour of fame, the very sexy, perfect image that is reflected to the audinece, and the toxicity, unhealthiness and discomfort that lies behind. We invested into stars that fell into drugs, eating disorders or for whom their mental health really suffered behind all the glamour that was projected to the world. We though of doing something very litteral that would reflect both sides, the glamourous, and the other side, toxic, hurting and discomfortable side. We looked into visuals of Studio 54, LSD trips, and crying/hurting stars. We decided to play on lights to show the contrast between the two set minds (the one projected to the audience, and the one hurting. We also reference to the abuse that exist in the music, fame industry especially on woman, always sexualizing young girls, creating a sexy, very cliché persona, but also the abuse that so many suffered behind, being manipulated, etc..
