Build It - Architecture

For the remote work I created a an architectural structure that would be placed on the Palais de Justice in Brussels and which would aim to place culture in a position of importance in our society. Three aerials bubbles of steel and glass will be created, partially surrounding the Palais de Justice. Each one of those bubbles will be dedicated to three cultural buildings that have in these past years been decaying and falling apart without the Belgian government giving enough funds to repair those national buildings. The first bubble will be dedicated to the students of the Royal Conservatorium (the organic design of the bubbles reflect the shape of a wave sound) which are today learning in horrible conditions, and will need a place to study if the building has ever to be renovated. One bubble will be dedicated to the Royal Fine Arts Museum of Brussels where important paintings are starting to be in danger because of the decay of the building (last year it was raining in the “Rubens room”. The last bubble will be for “La Cour de Cassation” which used to be in the Palais de Justice but since it has been falling apart for 30 years now (last year a bit of the ceiling fell) and its reparation has been suspended for 35 years (since 1987) because no one has the funds for its reparation. The structure of these bubbles are also inspired and based on the “infamous scaffolds” of the Palais de Justice which have been in place for 30 years because the company that placed the scaffolds went out of business and no one today wants to pay to get them off. The urban legend tells today that if someone will take them off, the majestic monument will fall apart. These three bubbles will be seen from kilometers in Brussels, because of the height of the Palais de Justice and its strategic placement within the city. All three monuments represented in the bubbles are located in the beautiful and old neighborhood called “le Sablon”, and are within a radius of 500m from each other. These bubbles will be an ode to our culture, to remind the importance of the arts and our history to the Brussels people and start regenerating the importance of those by placing them literally in the middle of the city on one of Brussels’ most important and emblematic monument. It is a way of recreating hope, and educating a whole new generation on the arts and our culture, especially in those dark times.
